By CityNews Staff

Alberta RCMP says Anthony Henday Drive has been reopened after it was closed for a couple of hours Saturday afternoon, due to a grass fire between Edmonton and Sherwood Park.

Mounties say they were informed of the grass fire around 12:25 p.m.

As a result, Edmonton’s ring road, along with most connecting roads and highways, were closed between Baseline Road and Wye Road.

Around 2:15 p.m., Mounties extended to closure range to Highway 16 and Wye Road, as the fire continued to spread, being helped by wind conditions.

Around 3:15 p.m., RCMP said the fire was deemed under control, which allowed for Anthony Henday Drive to be reopened.
