Search warrant leads to animal seizure and charges in Parkland County

A woman banned from owning horses is facing new charges after RCMP, Alberta SPCA, and Parkland County Enforcement Services executed a search warrant on a rural property in Parkland County on Monday.

Police say several horses were found in distress and seized by Alberta SPCA Peace Officers. The animals were transported for medical care and assessment.

Patricia Moore, 54, of Parkland County, was arrested and charged with breaching a court-ordered lifetime ban on owning equine animals, possessing stolen property under $5,000, breaching a prohibition order, and two counts of causing unnecessary pain and suffering to animals.

Moore was released with conditions, including finding new housing arrangements for any remaining horses.

She is scheduled to appear in Alberta Court of Justice in Evansburg on April 28.

Authorities are thanking the public for their role in the investigation. “It is thanks to the public that we were able to work… to seize these animals and protect them from further harm,” said Sgt. Sutherland of Evansburg RCMP.
