Police investigate suspicious death in West Edmonton

The Edmonton Police (EPS) is investigating a suspicious death that occurred early Friday morning in the city’s west end.

At approximately 1 a.m., officers from the West Branch Patrol responded to a request for assistance from EMS at a residence near 162 Street and 96 Avenue.

Upon arrival, police discovered the body of a deceased adult male inside the home.

Due to the circumstances surrounding the death, the EPS Homicide Section has since taken over the investigation.

The deceased has been identified as 35-year-old John Monares.

An autopsy was completed later that day by the Edmonton Medical Examiner’s Office; however, both the cause and manner of death remain under investigation.
