It was a relatively quiet trade deadline for the Edmonton Oilers, but the team also announcing some news about one of its star players.

Some local hockey analysts say the Oilers had a quiet trade deadline but made some depth improvements. Despite that, the team still lacking in goaltending.

“It’s clear that an improvement is needed when it comes to the goaltending regime, not from Skinner, but just having a backup for Skinner when he falters more,” said Avry Lewis-McDougall, Avry’s Sports Show.

And even out-of-town fans are feeling the same way.

“I don’t think they did much today, did they? I think the Rantanen one was the biggest one today,” said a hockey fan wearing a Montreal Canadiens jersey.

The Oilers acquired defenceman Jacob Walman and forward Carl Berglund from the San Jose Sharks for a conditional first-round draft pick as well as Trent Fredrick and Max Jones from Boston.

That’s not the only Oilers news on trade deadline day, team general manager Stan Bowman said Friday afternoon that forward Evander Kane will be on the long-term injury reserve until the rest of the season.

“So I do expect him to be back at some point. We don’t exactly know when that will be. It’s not going to be the regular season, will it be the playoffs. I don’t know. But if he can play long enough then he will definitely be back for us this year,” said Bowman.

The Oilers play the Dallas Stars on Saturday.
