Sturgeon County teenager killed in highway crash north of Edmonton

Police say a 17-year-old girl from Sturgeon County was killed in a head-on collision on a highway north of Edmonton Tuesday afternoon.

Morinville RCMP say a Ford Focus and a Chevy Silverado were involved in the crash on Highway 37 near Range Road 240 around 12:15 p.m. Both vehicles ended in a ditch.

Authorities say the teenager was driving the Focus; she was declared dead at the scene. The driver and the passenger of the Silverado were not injured, police add.

The circumstances surrounding the collision remain under investigation.
