Roads have reopened after poor road conditions led to multiple crashes involving semi-tractor trailers on Highway 63 north of Edmonton Sunday, Mounties say.
Boyle and Fort McMurray RCMP said at around 7:30 a.m. that multiple semi-trailers were rear-ended–and other vehicles lost traction and slid into a ditch–on Highway 63 at Township Road 781A south of Fort McMurray on the northbound lane.
They say slippery roads from overnight freezing rain were the cause, along with changing weather conditions.
“Motorists are advised with freezing rain in the region overnight, travel is not advised at this time,” police said.
511 Alberta says one of the semi-trailers overturned.
Mounties closed northbound traffic for several hours at the crash site on Highway 63, and it has since reopened.
