Edmonton’s Telus World of Science closed for the foreseeable future after fire causes smoke damage

The Telus World of Science on Friday said that it is extending the closure following smoke damage from a small fire that occurred on Monday, January 20.

In a news release, The Telus World of Science said while the fire was extinguished quickly, it has caused significant smoke damage throughout the Science Centre and needs extensive cleaning and restoration.  While no permanent damage was reported, it requires a comprehensive cleaning process.

Constance Scarlett, President and CEO, TELUS World of Science – Edmonton said,  “We deeply regret the inconvenience this extended closure may cause to our community, especially to those looking forward to exploring our exhibits and programs. The health and safety of our guests, volunteers and staff is our top priority, and we are committed to restoring the Science Centre.”

The centre did not say when it will reopen but will update the community via its website.

Due to the fire, the Amazing Pollinators Exhibition has been canceled. However, guests can head to the RASC Observatory, located in Coronation Park, to catch the parade of planets over the weekend.
