Cat found dead following early morning house fire in south Edmonton

A cat was found dead following a residential fire in south Edmonton early Tuesday morning.

Char marks can be seen from the basement window of the home, where the fire originated.

Fire crews arrived at a house fire at 49 Avenue and 112 Street at 2:25 a.m. While the basement fire was under control in half an hour, the fire declared out at 5:29 a.m.

Edmonton Fire Rescue Services said the family pet was found deceased and no other injuries were reported at the scene.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
