Fire destroys gas station east of Edmonton

A gas station east of Edmonton, near Ardrossan was destroyed by a fire, on Sunday.

Strathcona county emergency services said just after 8 am they received a 911 call reporting a vehicle had struck the natural gas meter at the tempo gas station on highway 16 at range road 223.

Deputy chief Devin Capcara told CityNews when fire crews arrived, they evacuated the building, set up a perimeter, and awaited the arrival of atco gas to isolate the gas feed to the building.

At about 8:30 am, he said there was an explosion in the building which ignited the fire.

Fire crews were able to get the fire under control, and no injuries have been reported.
