Longtime Edmonton city councillor Tim Cartmell announces run for mayor

Tim Cartmell making his bid to be the next mayor of Edmonton official Thursday, saying he will be forming a 'team' under the party system legislated in Bill 20.

Longtime Edmonton city councillor Tim Cartmell has announced his campaign for mayor of Edmonton.

Current mayor Amarjeet Sohi has not said whether he will be seeking another term.

“Edmonton is a city full of potential, but it’s clear we need leadership that listens and delivers real results,” said Cartmell, who was first elected to Edmonton’s city council in 2017.

Cartmell is vowing to make Edmonton’s neighbourhoods safe and vibrant while providing “efficient and effective” essential services like road networks and LRTs. He’s also promising a fiscally responsible government.

“This campaign is about doing the basics right: ensuring our transit works, reducing traffic congestion, maintaining our parks, addressing homelessness, and keeping Edmonton affordable. These are the priorities I’ve heard from residents, and as mayor, I will ensure these priorities are met,” said Cartmell.

Two other candidates have declared their candidacy: former city councillor Tony Caterina and former PC MLA Peter Sandhu.
