Man facing 13 charges after serious collision in northeast Edmonton; 4 hospitalized: police

A man has been charged with more than a dozen offences in relation to a serious collision that occurred in northeast Edmonton over the weekend.
The Edmonton Police Service’s Major Collision Investigation Section (MCIS) is investigating the crash that happened on Sunday at around 4:39 p.m. at the intersection of 132 Avenue and 82 Street.
Police say a 31-year-old male driver of a Toyota Prius was speeding when he ran a red light and struck a northbound Hyundai Elantra, which was occupied by two women, ages 35 and 37, and a child.
Emergency Medical Services (EMS) treated and transported the male driver to hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.
Further investigation revealed the Prius was stolen, police say. Police add they seized a knife, stolen property, a shotgun shell and an open alcohol container from the vehicle.
The two women in the Hyundai also suffered serious, non-life-threatening injuries and were taken to hospital. The child was transported to hospital for precautionary measures and has since been released.
Cody Slade Desjarlais, 31, has been charged with 13 offences, including impaired operation causing bodily harm (x2) and dangerous operation causing bodily harm (x2). He faces additional charges pending the completion of the MCIS investigation. Desjarlais is scheduled to appear in court on Wednesday.
Police are asking any witnesses with dash camera footage of the collision to contact the EPS at 780-423-4567 or #377 from a mobile phone.
