The RCMP say they arrested a St. Albert man who allegedly approached two teenage girls for sex and punched a 14-year-old boy in a shopping centre parking lot last week.

St. Albert RCMP are crediting the public with “crucial” tips that led to identifying the suspect and his arrest on Thursday. Mounties add details about the man “cannot be released until an information is sworn.”

Police say a man approached two 15-year-old girls on June 26 around 9 p.m. in the parking lot at Mission Ridge Shopping Centre on McKinney Avenue in St. Albert. He allegedly asked them if they wanted to do drugs and have sex with him.

The RCMP say the girls alerted their nearby friend, a 14-year-old boy, who was punched in the face after confronting the man.

Police add an adult then tried to intervene, and the suspect fled.
