Heat warnings have been issued throughout Alberta and much of central and northern Saskatchewan.

Environment Canada says the two Prairie provinces will experience temperatures of at least 30 degrees, with some parts of Alberta forecast to reach about 35 degrees by Wednesday.

Among the major centres that will be affected by the extreme heat include Edmonton, Calgary and Saskatoon.

“Love the weather. It’s amazing,” said one Edmontonian.

“I think just coming out here and enjoy and have fun with the kids is the way to go.”

However, not everyone fully agreed. Another Edmontonian said, “I find it’s a little too hot, but when we have water, it’s totally fine.”

“I’m so close to start sleeping in the basement. We have fans, but it’s not the best in this heat.”

High heat is also expected in southern Saskatchewan, with temperatures in Regina hovering around 30 degrees for the entire week.

“This warm spell is likely to linger into next week, particularly across southern B.C. and the prairie provinces,” explained Jennifer Smith, a meteorologist with Environment Canada.

Many parts of British Columbia have been under advisories and warnings about scorching temperatures for the last few days.

Environment Canada says parts of B.C.’s southern Interior and the northeast could see temperatures climb into the 40 degree range this week.

The City of Edmonton has activated its extreme weather response for extreme heat to keep vulnerable people safe, with extra water bottle filling stations, and cooling spaces at rec centres.

Water bottle stations are available across the city, with 24 of them being places throughout transit centres and LRT stations.

“I know its gonna be a hot week, so we’ll try to find a balance of getting some shade and getting some vitamin D.”
