Severe thunderstorm and tornado warnings end for Fort Saskatchewan, North Strathcona County

A tornado warning that was issued for parts of Alberta near Fort Saskatchewan Friday evening has now come to an end.

As well, a severe thunderstorm warning for the area has been downgraded to a thunderstorm watch.

The thunderstorm warning issued around 5:15 p.m. was in response to severe storms near Lamont moving northeast at 15 km/h.

“Large hail can damage property and cause injury,” the warning reads. “Strong wind gusts can toss loose objects, damage weak buildings, break branches off trees and overturn large vehicles.”

“Take cover immediately, if threatening weather approaches.”

The warning was downgraded shortly after 6:30 p.m.

Environment Canada issues the warnings when thunderstorms are likely to being large hail, strong wind or torrential rainfall.
