Man charged in connection to sexual assaults at encampments

Edmonton police have charged a 21-year-old man in connection to alleged sexual assaults at encampments.
EPS says on June 10, officers took Jeremiah Savard into custody in connection to an alleged sexual assault at an encampment near 103 Street and 98 Avenue, earlier that day.
It is believed during the incident, that he sexually assault a minor at knifepoint in his tent.
Police were later able to link Savard’s DNA to a sexual assault in an encampment near 111 Avenue and 82 Street on Nov. 17, 2023.
Savard has since been charged with sexual assault with a weapon, aggravated sexual assault, invitation to sexual touching, unlawful confinement, escaping lawful custody, sexual assault, and aggravated sexual assault.
He is expected to appear in court on June 17.
Public warning
Police are issuing a warning to the public as they believe there might be similar incidents in or around encampments.
It is also believed that sexual contact with Savard may pose a medical risk, and if anyone has come in contact with him is advised to seek medical attention through one of the following methods:
- Contact their family physician or a primary care provider to arrange for simple, confidential testing. Individuals can also contact Health Link at 811 if they have questions or concerns about this process;
- Book an appointment with the Edmonton STI Clinic by calling 1-855-945-6700 ext. 2. The STI Clinic provides assessment, diagnosis, testing and treatment for sexually transmitted infections in a confidential, non-judgmental and inclusive space.
Additionally, police are asking if anyone has any information, or may have been a victim, to contact investigators at 780-423-4567 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
