Edmonton looks to create more affordable housing

As Edmontonians continue to struggle, the City looks to create more affordable housing.

The mayor spoke at the 63-unit building in south Edmonton which is expected to be completed by the end of the year. The message, how the City wants to end homelessness.

“This is truly a collective effort from the community and everyone else involved and we need more of this,” said Mayor Amarjeet Sohi.

413 units have been completed over nine different affordable housing projects, with an additional 63 units when this building is complete. The mayor said that work needs to continue to get people off the streets and everyone needs to address homelessness in the city.

“Because houselessness is costing tons of money in the hospitals, in the justice system, in policing, and many other ways. So, we end up paying more of taxpayers money managing homelessness. It’s more effective to end houselessness,”
