Sun glare causes collision between motorcyclist, pedestrian on Princess Elizabeth Avenue: EPS

By News Staff

Edmonton police say sun glare – not speed – is believed to be a factor in a motorcycle collision that sent a 54-year-old man to hospital with serious injuries Saturday evening.

The Edmonton Police Service says a 25-year-old motorcyclist crashed into a pedestrian at the traffic circle on Princess Elizabeth Avenue shortly before 7 p.m.

Police allege the man was crossing at the traffic circle exit using a marked crosswalk when he was struck. The motorcycle, police say, was exiting the traffic circle to head west on Prince Elizabeth.

“The collision caused both the pedestrian and the motorcycle to slide for several metres,” EPS said in a news release.

Paramedics treated and transported the pedestrian to hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries. The motorcyclist was not injured.

The EPS major collision investigations section is investigating.

Anyone with information or footage is asked to call 780-423-4567 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
