Fire ban declared in Leduc County

Leduc County issued a fire ban Wednesday evening.

The county stated the ban is due to an increased risk of of wildfires amid dry conditions and high winds.

During the ban, no outdoor fires are allowed. This includes open burning and fires contained in approved burn barrels, firepits, or charcoal barbecues. Fireworks are also prohibited during the ban.

The county is asking if anyone who already has a fire going to extinguish it immediately.

As for fire permits, they are all suspended per the Forest and Prairie Protection Act, and no new permits will be issued until the ban is over.

Cooking appliances such as barbecues, firepits, and patio heaters — that are fueled by liquid fuel such as propane or natural gas — can still be used.

Leduc County says fire officials will continue to monitor conditions and provide an update on the ban at a later time.
