Edmonton police are looking for a man believed to be linked to an illegally trafficked firearm.
EPS says it was reportedly contacted by Canada Post after a man in Fort McMurray allegedly mailed a gun to an address in Edmonton.
A post sorting facility intercepted the package, which is when police were contacted.
Police say the gun remains in their possession and have tried to locate the intended recipient, but have been unable to do so.
“The sale of restricted firearms in Canada is prohibited,” says Const. Marc-Andre Gagnon with the EPS Northwest Branch BEAT team.
“Additionally, there are strict rules related to the shipping of legal non-restricted firearms, including requirements for a secured carrier, a firearm declaration and confirmation that both the seller and purchaser have valid firearms licenses. Not only is the firearm prohibited, the manner in which it was shipped did not fall within these parameters and it is therefore considered illegally trafficked.”
Police have released photos of the man believed to have mailed the gun.

Anyone with any information is asked to contact EPS at 780-423-4567 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
