Man driving on wrong side of road dead after swerving to avoid collision: EPS

By News Staff

Police believe speed was a factor in the death of a 54-year-old man who was reportedly driving on the wrong side of the road when he struck power poles in south Edmonton Friday night.

The Edmonton Police Service is investigating after it was reported a Toyota Tundra truck was driving south on Parsons Road in northbound lanes — near 28 Avenue — when it swerved to avoid a head-on collision.

The driver struck a wooden power pole and then a metal power pole on the east side of the road, police say.

Officers were called to the scene around 10:45 p.m. Paramedics treated the driver and took him to hospital with life-threatening injuries.

He died of his injuries in hospital Saturday, police say.

The EPS major collision investigations section is investigating.
