Edmonton stabbing suspect shot by police

By News Staff

Police say the suspect in an alleged stabbing outside a pub in west Edmonton was taken to hospital Friday evening after being shot by an officer.

Edmonton police say the 36-year-old sustained non-life-threatening injuries in the officer-involved shooting near 98A Avenue and 178 Street.

Alberta’s police watchdog (ASIRT) is investigating.

Investigators say the incident began with a stabbing near Winterburn Road and 107 Avenue. They allege a suspect stabbed a man around 7:30 p.m. before fleeing in a truck. The stabbing victim sustained serious injuries, according to police.

A civilian vehicle reportedly pursued the suspect and was eventually rammed by the truck. When officers arrived at that scene, police say there was a confrontation between law enforcement and the suspect.

That led to an officer firing his gun, striking the suspect. He was treated on scene and transported to hospital by paramedics.
