Staff rescue girl dangling from chairlift at Edmonton ski hill

By CityNews Staff

Staff at a ski hill in Edmonton saved a small child who was left hanging from a chairlift on the weekend.

The youngester was boarding the lift at Rabbit Hill Snow Resort around 11:30 on Saturday morning, when she slipped off the seat, and was left hanging about 15 feet up.

Rabbit Hill says one of their employees saw what happened, immediately stopped the lift, and called for help.

Staff brought out a tarp and caught the child, who was not hurt.

Jocelyn Wetterberg with the ski hill says an incident like this is very rare.

“But, we do train for situations like this — we. of course, we never want them to happen — but we train on multiple different emergency procedures at the beginning of the year as well as multiple time throughout the year so that when something like this does happen, we’re ready for it,” she told CityNews.

“We practise a lot of these things over and over again so it’s just muscle memory — we just go out and do it,” Wetterberg added. “I think that’s an important thing that we keep training for things like this, just because it never happens, doesn’t mean it won’t.”

She says the whole ordeal was over in about three minutes, and the little girl was out skiing with her family that afternoon.
