The Lake Louise RCMP Detachment reports that a 32-year-old backcountry skier has died after falling while climbing on Temple Mountain in Banff National Park.

Police were called to the area around 4:30 p.m. on Friday and found the individual, identified as a Saskatchewan resident.

The deceased is believed to have fallen to his death while climbing Aemmer Coloir on the northern face of Mount Temple.

According to Parks Canada, Mount Temple is one of the highest peaks in the Lake Louise area, and a number of accidents have occurred here in the past, with a steep elevation gain of 1,400 meters.

While foul play is not suspected, the investigation is ongoing.
