EFRS deals with pair of overnight fires

Edmonton Fire Rescue Services says firefighters responded to a pair of overnight fires Sunday into Monday.

Around 10:40 p.m., EFRS responded to a report of a building on fire at 96 Street and 31 Avenue.

In total 11 units were deployed to the scene, with the first arriving within five minutes.

Fire crews battled the blaze and finally had it under control at 4:55 a.m.

By 11 a.m., crews were still on scene, and say no injuries have been reported and the cause of the fire has not yet been confirmed.

EFRS says firefighters have responded to five calls at buildings under construction between January 1 and October 26, 2023. Through all of 2022, they responded to six.

EFRS also responded to a house fire around 5:40 a.m.

Five units were dispatched to a home near 16 Avenue and 12 Street, with the first arriving within ten minutes of the call.

By 11 a.m., firefighters were still dealing with the fire and note no injuries have been reported.
