Premier Smith scores highest approval rating since taking office: Angus Reid

Alberta Premier Danielle Smith saw her approval rating climb this summer, new polling shows.

The Angus Reid Institute has Smith’s approval rating at 47 per cent – up two percentage points since June.

It’s the Alberta premier’s highest approval rating since taking office last fall, according to Angus Reid.

Smith scored best among other Canadian premiers with the number of respondents who said they “strongly approve” of their provincial leader – at 23 per cent.

Elsewhere, Saskatchewan Premier Scott Moe and Nova Scotia Premier Tim Houston are tied with the country’s highest current approval rating at 50 per cent despite a significant drop for both.

Like Smith, Newfoundland Premier Andrew Furey (49 per cent), B.C. Premier David Eby (48 per cent) also made gains in approval rating, the research shows.

Quebec Premier François Legault dropped one percentage point to 47 per cent.

At the bottom of the pack are Ontario Premier Doug Ford and Manitoba Premier Heather Stefanson. They are both at 30 per cent, though trending in different directions.

The Angus Reid Institute conducted an online survey from Aug. 31 to Sept. 8 among 3,873 Canadian adults who are members of Angus Reid Forum.
