The City of Edmonton has removed its extreme weather response Thursday morning.
The extreme weather response began on Sunday as the city was facing high temperatures.
However, by Thursday afternoon the City activated its poor air quality response.
The activation will remain in effect until Sunday at 11:59 p.m., but could be extended if the poor air quality persists beyond that.
According to the City, poor air quality activations are calling when an Environment Canada Special Air Quality Statement is issued and an Air Quality Index score of seven or higher will remain for two consecutive days.

Water bottle-filling stations will still be open at select fire hydrants, throughout transit centres and at LRT stations giving residents access to drinking water.
City facilities and libraries will be open for those needing to escape the smoke.
Distribution of N95 masks to social agency partners will be available as needed to provide to community members in need of protection from smoke.
City officials are urging Edmontonians to check in on older family, friends and neighbours.
