The Covenant Foundation Lottery unveiled this year’s grand prize dream home Thursday morning. A 4,700 square foot, $2.2 million home in Edmonton’s Jagare Ridge neighborhood.
In past years, the lottery has supported Edmonton area hospitals, including the Misericordia and Grey Nuns Hospitals. This year, the support from the lottery will be extended to covenant sites across the province.
“We’re able to impact Albertans beyond the greater Edmonton area, all across the province, so that was a key priority for us, especially when it comes to supporting seniors,” explained Rob Christie, Covenant Foundation board member.
The Covenant Foundation Lottery has focused their efforts on senior’s care for this year’s mission.
“Seniors have complex needs, they have complex medical needs. There’s continuing care, there’s acute care, there’s rehabilitation, there’s specialized supportive living, and of course there’s end of life palliative care,” explained Christie.
“So all of these needs, seniors eventually will need. We all have seniors in our lives, we’d like to see them maintain their independence, stay in their home as long as possible, stay connected to their communities, have good health outcomes, and a general good quality of life.”
If winning this beautiful dream home wasn’t enough, you support 21 hospitals and continuing care sites across Alberta.
“There’s video experiences such as kayaking, or playing with puppies, visiting with a grandchild, doing a tour of Buckingham Palace. We also have the option of using Google Maps with this technology to visit a person’s childhood home or the family farm,” said Scott Stewart, a social worker with Edmonton General Continuing Care Centre.
“So you’re really connecting with those core memories for those individuals. When you enter into long-term care, there are gonna be limitations, so by bringing these experiences to them, they’re able to have these experiences in an interactive and supportive way, so their quality of life is enhanced.”
Tickets for the lottery are on sale now until November 9.
