RCMP officer killed in collision while responding to call

RCMP in Strathcona County has confirmed an officer has died following a collision early Monday morning.
The collision happened around 2 a.m., as Const. Harvinder Singh Dhami, better known by his colleagues as Harvey, was responding to a noise complaint.
RCMP say while driving along Township Road 540, he collided with a concrete barrier.
“Despite efforts of emergency personnel and civilians on scene, Harvey succumbed to his injuries,” said RCMP in a press conference Monday afternoon.

RCMP did not confirm if anyone else was injured in the collision.
Dhami was described as “someone who was mature with a strong sense of responsibility. He was hardworking, dependable and so well-liked by everyone around him.”
The Mountie’s death marks the ninth Canadian police officer death in the last seven months, while in the line of duty.
RCMP have confirmed an investigation is still ongoing.
