Police say they are investigating the suspicious death of a man found in a central Edmonton apartment building Saturday morning.

Officers responded around 5:30 a.m. to the report of a critically injured man in the lobby of a building at 97 Street and 109 Avenue in the McCauley area – north of Chinatown.

Officers and EMS arrived and found the man dead “with obvious injuries,” according to police.

The EPS’ homicide section is investigating. An autopsy has not yet been scheduled.

A neighbour who requested to remain anonymous told CityNews it wasn’t the first incident at the apartment.

“There have been issues for this neighbourhood,” he said. “It’s a big problem. Looked like a lot of traffic going on in and out of the building every.”

The neighbour believes the constant foot traffic in and out of the building is drug related.

“I don’t really know what happened last night, but this has become like a routine,” he said.
