Potential problem for landlord registry

As the City of Edmonton discusses a potential list of landlords who continuously violate health and safety codes, a provincial group representing residential landlords says they’re concerned.
The association representing landlords in Alberta say they’re worried about a lack of clarity on how decisions on the registry will be made. Adding there are a number of health and safety codes landlords must comply with.
The associtation says they want to see increased education for tenants on rights and how to submit complaints.
Saying in part through a statement: “It is unclear why the City of Edmonton is proposing further restrictions on Landlords, especially during a time of high demand for housing.
“While the intention of the proposal may be to protect renters, it could have unintended consequences. Unfair targeting of landlords could result in significant financial losses and discouraged landlords could make it even more challenging for renters to find housing”
CityNews tried to contact to city councillors for clarification but have not heard back at this time.
