Imperial Oil making progress on spill clean up
Imperial Oil says it’s making progress to clean up spills near its Kearl site in northern Alberta.
They say they’re removing impacted ice and snow and working to mitigate future issues.
They add the spill did not affect drinking water or wildlife but noted monitoring will continue.

Leaders from nearby communities are being invited to visit the sites as well.

The first spill dates back to last May, but nearby First Nations communities were only informed last month.
The Northwest Territories government also said they were kept in the dark.
Premier Danielle Smith says despite the limited environmental impact, the territorial government should have been notified.
The Alberta energy regulator issued its environmental protection order to Imperial Oil on February 6.
