A healthcare leader is leaving their post with Alberta Health Services (AHS) amid a growing healthcare crisis and other removals
Chief paramedic Darren Sandbec is leaving the role on Jan. 9, 2023.
“AHS appreciates the expertise and skills that he has brought to the organization,” the organization said in a statement.
This follows the resignations of two chief medical officers, along with the firing of Dr. Deena Hinshaw.

Health Minister Jason Copping doesn’t think all the departures of healthcare leaders will have an effect on the changes the government is making.
“We are focused on delivering on the key priorities of government which is building capacity within our healthcare system, dealing with issues and returns to emerge, getting down emergency department wait times, getting down EMS response times, … getting caught up on the surgeries,” Copping said Friday.
AHS says an interim leader is being put in place.
