A 32-year-old man was taken into police custody Friday in connection with a report for domestic abuse and a house fire in the Allendale neighbourhood.
Edmonton police say they responded to the domestic abuse report at a southside home shortly after midnight.
When police arrived, they say they noticed the house was on fire. They began evacuating neighbouring houses as a result.
Edmonton Fire Rescue Services was called to tackle the blaze. The fire was a second-alarm fire due to the low temperatures and high flames.
Police confirmed to CityNews that a woman was treated by EMS and taken to hospital.
Charges are pending for the man who was taken into custody.
EFRS says there were four cats in the building at the time of the incident. The pets all reportedly died in the fire.
The incident is still under investigation.
