Edmonton police make arrest in attempted kidnapping

Police in Edmonton have made an arrest in a “brazen” attempted kidnapping of a woman earlier in the week.

The Edmonton Police Service says on Tuesday afternoon, officers were called to the reports of a kidnapping near 114 Street and 107 Avenue.

Police say an 18-year-old woman was grabbed from behind by a man after stepping off an ETS bus on 107 Avenue. Investigators say the woman was dragged by the man down the street before two witnesses stepped in.

The bystanders, according to police, “successfully rescued” the woman, taking her to a nearby convenience store to contact the EPS.

Detective Thomas Marsh commended the actions of the witnesses who stepped in.

“We would like to thank the citizens who intervened during the attack and prevented this woman from experiencing additional harm,” he said.
