By Danina Falkenberg

The cemetery in the Town of Innisfail has been vandalized with about 100 gravestones knocked over.

Innisfail’s RCMP received a complaint on Thursday, Oct. 13 that the town’s cemetery had been vandalized the evening before. An unknown individual or individuals knocked over gravestones damaging some. The town’s mayor Jean Barclay says the community is not happy right now.

“It was extremely disappointing and it’s hard to put into words….it’s one thing to have vandalism but when it’s to the extent that this is that’s at a whole new level,” said Jean Barclay mayor, for the town of Innisfail.

Barclay says the stones were located in the older part of the cemetery.
“I hope that these people whoever they are will be caught and they’ll be some retribution for the vandalism that they created because the community is not happy right now let me put it that way.”
