Edmonton church deacon charged with sexual assault

Edmonton police (EPS) have charged a church deacon with sexual assault and sexual interference in connection with an incident last November.

Police say the 48-year-old man, Frezghi Zerezghi, was a deacon at a church near 121 Avenue and 103 Street at the time of the incident.

In a press release Wednesday, EPS said Zerezghi was arrested on Dec. 12, 2025. He was released on an undertaking. The allegations have yet to be proven in court.

Police say they believe there could be other victims.
