2-year-old and mother hit while crossing the street: EPS

A mother and a 2-year-old were hit by a vehicle while crossing the street Thursday evening, according to Edmonton police.

EPS says the collision occurred just after 7 p.m. near 118 Avenue and 64 Street in the city’s northeast as the mother was pushing the 2-year-old in a stroller in a marked crosswalk.

After the mother and toddler received the signal lights to cross the street, officers say the two were hit by a car travelling west once they entered the crosswalk.

EMS treated both the mother and the 2-year-old at the scene before taking both to the hospital — the 2-year-old for non-life threatening injuries and the mother for precautionary reasons.

Police said in a statement to CityNews, “the vehicle remained at the scene and the 50-year-old male driver did not report any injuries.”

“Sun glare is believed to be a possible factor in this collision. Speed and alcohol are not considered factors,” the statement added.
