Are the default tipping options on machines getting higher?

Are the suggested tipping options on point-of-sale terminal machines getting higher and higher?
While 15 per cent may have been the standard tipping choice for “good service,” suggested tips on credit card machines across the country no longer appear to reflect that.
While a recent survey conducted by Restaurants Canada found that Canadians are tipping more than before the COVID-19 pandemic, an Edmonton restaurant owner says that isn’t necessarily because the prompts are higher.
In fact, Jimmy Shewchuk with Prairie Catering says it could be having the opposite effect.
“I think that forcing their hand or nudging them a little to tip 30 per cent is a little bit uncalled for,” said Sewchuk.
“Sometimes it leaves a bad taste in my mouth when I see it, and I almost go the other way. Now I almost want to tip less because you’re trying to force my hand.”
Tipping also seems to be popping up at more and more places that aren’t traditionally tip-based, like retail stores and mechanics.
“I’ve personally had really good mechanics,” said Sewchuk. “I love to throw them a couple of gift cards for a local restaurant to thank them for saving me money or doing an exceptional job.”
