Town in Mourning
Banff officials say it’s the first homicide in the tourist community in more than 30 years.
Since the death of the Banff resident, others in the town are coming together to offer support for one another, with Mayor Corrie DiManno encouraging Banfittes to come together.
“On behalf of the community, I send our deepest condolences to the family and friends of the young man taken from us in the prime of his life. We are shocked, angry, and heartbroken that a senseless act has robbed us of a cherished Banffite, and we mourn this immense loss with all who knew and loved him,” DiManno said.
“It’s crucially important that residents know there are support services, counseling, and people available to talk to as they begin to process and grieve this tragedy. Please know you are not alone and we will get through this dark time together,” DiManno said in a release.
Banff is also holding a drop-in support session in the Town Hall Council Chambers Friday from 4 to 7 p.m. for people to connect with community members and access professional mental health support.
Walk-in urgent mental health support is also available at the Banff Mineral Springs hospital from 2 to 9 p.m., seven days a week.
Residents are also encouraged to contact Bow Valley Victim Services at 403.760.0197 for support, and for after-hours assistance past 9 p.m., people can go to the emergency room or contact 2-1-1 for any mental health support.
Banff RCMP asks anyone with information about the incident to contact the local detachment at 403.762.2226.
