Large-scale fentanyl drug lab dumped near old Blatchford Field airport: EPS

Edmonton police say large quantities of various chemicals used in the production of fentanyl were dumped near the lands of the old Edmonton Municipal Airport.

Police say a citizen walking their dog near the Blatchford Field site on May 24 found containers of suspicious chemicals and equipment.

The EPS’ Edmonton drug and gang enforcement (EDGE) unit were called to the scene and determined it was the disposal site of a large-scale fentanyl clan lab.

EDGE members say they uncovered nearly 300 litres of chemicals, 63 kilograms of white powders, finished product, equipment, scales and PPE.

Remaining chemicals were destroyed by an environmental consulting company, police said in a release.

Officers are still investigating and have yet to identify a suspect.
