What are some Edmonton Oilers fans’ playoff superstitions ahead of Game 7?
Whether it’s not touching a trophy before actually winning it, or putting one skate on before the other, athletes have always been a superstitious bunch.
And come playoff time, the same can be said of some fans.
With the Edmonton Oilers playing a must-win Game 7 Saturday night – with their first-round playoff series against the L.A. Kings tied 3-3 – Oilers fans are doing their part to send the right vibes to the team.

CityNews caught up with some fans about their hockey superstitions.
“Soon as the game comes on, we sit on the exact same couch,” said one fan. “We sit in the exact same position and we’re wearing the exact same sweater. And we have to wait until the end of the first period before anybody gets up. So if you need to go the bathroom, you just got to hold it.”
“For playoffs, this hat never leaves,” said another fan, pointing to his Oilers cap. “I’m always wearing a hat, but this one’s just on the entire time. I usually substitute them out, but not right now.”
“I watch with my 10-year-old daughter actually,” said a jersey-clad Edmonton mom. “She has her own little jersey and actually I feel like she’s good luck. Because when she leaves the room, we get scored on. She comes back to the room, and then we score goals. So I consider her my lucky charm for sure.”

For another Oilers fan, the playoff superstition even extended to her little pooch.
“Every single time that I put this on her, the Oilers team wins,” said a woman whose dog was wearing an Oilers sweater. “And when I don’t put it on her, they lose. So it’s definitely gonna be on her tomorrow (Saturday). Hopefully they win.”

For the Oilers players themselves, one of their biggest fans – five-year-old Ben Stelter – has been a constant good luck charm. Fans say it’s a must for Ben to be at Rogers Place for Saturday’s Game 7.
“He’s like a part of the team. It’s just really nice to watch.”

“Ben is Edmonton’s lucky charm to be quite honest,” said another. “I think him being there for the for the winning games is no surprise and I think hopefully he’ll be there tomorrow and bring us more good luck.”
