Alberta passes 1,000 active COVID-19 cases; 368 new infections since Friday

EDMONTON (660 NEWS) — Active COVID-19 cases in Alberta have surged passed 1,000 after 368 people tested positive for the virus over the weekend.
The count of active cases in the province sits at 1,109. Of those, 86 people are in hospital, with 17 in the intensive care unit.
On Friday, the province recorded 165 new cases, 106 were confirmed on Saturday and 97 on Sunday.

Alberta’s death toll is now at 170 after three additional people died due to complications from the virus.
Alberta Health says the deaths include a man in his 90s linked to the outbreak at Generations Calgary and a woman in her 90s and a man in his 70s who were connected to the Misericordia hospital outbreak in Edmonton.
The Calgary zone has the highest number of active cases in the province with 553.

- North zone: 76
- Unknown: 5
Another section of Calgary has been added to the province’s watch list. Calgary’s upper northeast area currently has 61 active cases. This area joins Calgary Centre and Calgary Elbow which were also added to the watch list last week.
There are now 12 areas in the province being monitored by health officials.
As of Monday, 590,502 COVID-19 tests have been completed and 8,308 Albertans have recovered.
