Power outages, blackouts reported across Alberta

CALGARY (660 NEWS) – Cities and towns across Alberta experienced widespread power outages Sunday afternoon.

More than 20 communities were affected in Calgary alone.

According to the Alberta Electrical System Operator’s website (AESO), two paths from B.C. and Montana were out of service.

Alberta electricity provider Fortis also reported the loss of their B.C. tie line, which supplies power to more than 550,000 Albertans.

With the ENMAX website down, the full extent of the power outage remained unclear.

At 4:36 p.m. MDT, ENMAX tweeted that power had been “restored to everyone affected by the province-wide transmission issue.”
