Alberta Health provides update to school boards on coronavirus

CALGARY (660 NEWS) – Alberta Health is addressing the concern of many parents in an updated letter to school boards.
In the document, the agency recommends families who have been to Hong Kong, Japan, Singapore, South Korea or Italy in the past 14 days to monitor themselves daily for symptoms until two weeks after they returned.
Families returning from Iran or Hubei Province, China, are being asked to voluntarily self-isolate for 14 days since their return.
“These recommendations are made out of an abundance of caution and contain only voluntary measures,” said Dr. Deena Hinshaw in the letter. “You and your staff are not expected to enforce or monitor them.”
Dr. Hinshaw said there are still no probable or confirmed cases of the virus in Alberta, and the risk remains low.
School boards are being encouraged to follow their standard processes for any illnesses, including monitoring and reporting unusual cases of sickness.
