One arrested, two sought in robbery at Southgate Mall

Employees and shoppers are recovering after suspects used 'noxious' spray during a smash and grab robbery at Southgate mall.

EDMONTON – One person is in custody and two other suspects are being sought after a midday robbery at an Edmonton jewelry store.

Police say shortly before 12:30 p.m. officers were called to Southgate Mall for reports that several suspects had tried to rob the jewelry store, pepper spraying the area.

Mall employees say about a dozen people were pepper-sprayed when the masked thieves came in.

Shoppers were cleared out so Edmonton Fire Rescue Services could ventilate the wing of the mall that was pepper-sprayed.

EPS says a man is in custody and investigators are looking for the other two suspects.

Anyone with information is asked to call police or submit an anonymous tip through Crime Stoppers.
