RED DEER (660 NEWS) – While not everyone is a fan of Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, creating a life-sized Pinata of the leader is a whole other story.
That’s exactly what a bar in Red Deer did as part of its Canada Day festivities.
On a post that has gone viral on Redditt, Burgundy Food and Stage featured a Pinata with the portrait of Trudeau and had customers take a whack at it.
“It was fun for everyone. We filled it with money and little pieces of paper that said the things that he promised that he didn’t come through with and candy,” said bar owner Robert Newell who came up with the idea for the Pinata.
The post has received hundreds of comments, some laughing at the Pinata and other criticizing it.
Some believe the event was in poor taste and ‘Un-Canadian’.
Despite some of the backlash, Newell isn’t phased.
“If it had been an animal Pinata, PETA wouldn’t get a hold of me. My daughter’s last birthday, we hung a Mickey Mouse one and we bashed that one and Disney didn’t call me.”
Newell says that while he might not agree with all of what Trudeau has done, he would treat him like any other customer if he ever showed up in person.
