Appeal for Travis Vader dismissed

EDMONTON (660 NEWS) – An appeal in the case against Travis Vader has been dismissed in an Edmonton courtroom.
Vader was sentenced in January 2017 to life in prison for manslaughter in the deaths of Lyle and Marie McCann.
Lawyers asked the Alberta Court of Appeal for a new trial last November on the grounds that there were a number of errors in the original one.
The Justices in the case, The Honourable Madam Justice Marina Paperny, The Honourable Mr. Justice Peter Martin, and The Honourable Mr. Justice Jack Watson dismissing the case.
The Justices writing in their decision “Travis Vader killed Lyle and Marie McCanns during an armed robbery and then concealed their remains, has been proven beyond any reasonable doubt.”
Adding “It was the Crown’s position that the killing of the McCanns was both intentional and planned and deliberate, and therefore first degree murder. The appellant countered there was insufficient evidence the McCanns were even dead or that he had killed them, and that in any event there was no evidence that the killings were either intentional or planned and deliberate. Following lengthy closing submissions, the trial judge reserved his decision.”
