EDMONTON (660 NEWS) – Alberta Pork is now saying a recent case of a disease affecting pigs was a false positive.
Last week, it said there were two cases of porcine epidemic diarrhea, but are now clarifying that testing revealed one of those cases was false.
However, there have still been three confirmed cases of the disease, which causes vomiting and diarrhea in pigs.
Alberta Pork apologizes for any confusion or alarm and adds that false positives are rare, but occasionally expected in disease investigations.
Alberta Park is also continuing to investigate to determine if there are any more cases.
The disease does not carry any risk for humans, and there are not any food safety concerns.
