Edmonton schools to make carbon monoxide detectors mandatory

EDMONTON – The Edmonton Public School Board plans to install carbon monoxide detectors in all its schools.

The devices are mandatory in new homes but there are no rules for schools, and with a few exceptions, Edmonton schools don’t have them.

The board expects to spend between $50,000 and $100,000 to install the detectors.

Edmonton Catholic Schools said there are no plans to install detectors in all their schools, but a spokesperson says the district puts them in automotive classrooms as well as portables.
