Postal strike hurting small business

CALGARY (660 NEWS) – The Canada Post strike is having a significant impact on small business owners.
According to the Canadian Federation of Independent Business (CFIB), companies are losing payments and orders and it’s costing them too much.
“More than two-thirds of our members, in fact, say there has been an impact to their business. It’s only rotating strikes for now but it is already starting to have an impact and if this is not resolved quickly, it’s going to have a much more serious impact on small business and that’s just not acceptable,” said CFIB Vice President of Alberta and B.C., Richard Truscott.
Truscott says that’s not just a few invoices or parcels being lost, it’s thousands of dollars.
“They’re losing orders from suppliers. There’s all kinds of unnecessary disruption to those businesses. It’s a major inconvenience but if you put a financial cost to it, we’re talking about an average of $3,000 and that is not small change for a small business.”
The CFIB hopes that the federal government will step in and enact back to work legislation to prevent further negative impacts on small businesses.
